Upgrading skills did not result in solving the educated unemployment problem in India and Sri Lanka. South Asian economies or particularly those sectors of economies that employ educated people, did not expand much. There was also a mismatch between the qualities of labour force demanded by the market and those that were supplied by the systems of education and training.

"Un buco nero inaccettabile": così il sottosegretario agli Esteri Famiano Crucianelli riferendosi a un futuro che continuasse a escludere i Balcani dall'Unione Europea. "Nel loro insieme - ha aggiunto - i Balcani devono poter entrare in Europa se davvero vogliamo puntare alla pace, allo sviluppo, alla legalità di quella che è una zona cruciale per il futuro dell'intero continente". Il sottosegretario agli Affari Esteri del governo Prodi è intervenuto ieri mattina a Firenze in apertura del seminario finale di "Seenet", programma di cooperazione decentrata tra i più innovativi che ha collegato la Toscana con il sud est europeo. Promosso dalla Regione Toscana, dalle Ong Ucodep e Cospe con il sostegno della direzione generale del Ministero Affari Esteri italiano. In tre anni, Seenet, ha fatto nascere una rete fra 30 soggetti toscani (enti locali, aziende pubbliche, organismi privati) e 21 enti locali di cinque paesi del sud est europeo (Albania, Bosnia Erzegovina, Croazia, Macedonia, Serbia) con quattro milioni di euro di finanziamento e 27 progetti realizzati.

UNESCO has offered to support the IT dissemination project of the State, Akshaya, in view of its potential to facilitate women's empowerment. The contents proposed to be developed relate to legal guidance, career guidance, Government schemes, health and welfare of mothers and children. Select Akshaya centres will receive aid, which includes research and training.

International organisations expect India to play a lead role in the global control of small arms because the country has been a major victim of the illegal trade in foreign-made sophisticated arms. They want that India should be able to push for a consensus at a UN conference on small arms that begins on June 26.
