24/07/2006 Villagers Sanjay Colony (Bhagirath Nagar) - in the Indian capital city of Delhi - condemned the Indian and the Delhi government on Sunday for trying to evict them from their homes. They were testifying before a panel of activists and NGOs on how the government planned to uproot a residential area where the government itself had built schools, hospitals and roads for the people.

But there are more than 50 million children in the country who fail to secure proper meals every single day, something that India needs to ponder upon very seriously. According to a recent UN report, 10 children die from malnutrition in the developing countries every minute. About three quarters of the undernourished children come from just 10 countries of which 57 million are from India and 8 million each in Bangladesh and Pakistan.

Milcin and Ambassador de Man sign the agrement on cooperation
11/07/2006 Mrs. Frederique de Man, the Dutch Ambassador to Macedonia, and Vladimir Milcin, the Executive Director of Foundation Open Society Institute (FOSIM), signed an agreement for cooperation and implementation of “Equal Education Opportunities for Roma Children” project. Mabera Kamberi, Senior Advisor at the Ministry of Labour and Social Policies and coordinator of Governments Programme under the Roma Inclusion Decade, was also present at the signing ceremony.

ECMI gives positive assessment for 2006 Elections
11/07/2006 The European Centre for Minority Issues (ECMI) assessed the 2006 Parliamentary Elections as successfully conducted. ECMI’s assessment was based on the reports submitted by the 26 accredited election monitors, who observed both the election campaigns and the ballot day activities.

An Indian villager
11/07/2006 Six villagers from Bhatti Mines, a rural dwelling in Indian capital New Delhi have started a hunger strike to protest against the demolition of their residential areas. The villagers have appealed to the Indian government to protect them and allow them to follow their traditional skills of water harvesting and digging wells and ponds.
