PUCALLPA, Peru, Jan 30 (IPS) - Residents of the Amazon jungle town of Orellana in Peru have filed a complaint against a logging company for using their identity documents to commit tax fraud in illegal timber sales worth more than $200,000.

Uruguayssa toimintansa aloittanut Metsä-Botnian sellutehdas on synnyttänyt maan eri puolille tuhansia metsäalan työpaikkoja, joiden laadun työntekijöiden selvä enemmistö arvostaa varsin korkealle. Puunhankinnan työoloja selvittäneet tutkijat huomauttavat kuitenkin, että työn katkonaisuus ja urakkapalkkaus jättävät osan työntekijöistä varsin niukoille ansioille.

In seguito all’operazione Viola, l'inchiesta internazionale che ha portato stamani all'esecuzione di 66 ordini di custodia, Save the Children sottolinea come il fenomeno della tratta di esseri umani sia una realtà composita, in cui vari elementi convivono e hanno significative interrelazioni, a partire dalla dimensione nazionale e quella estera. E’ quindi necessario, promuovere la massima collaborazione fra tutti gli attori coinvolti e che siano stabiliti degli standard condivisi per la identificazione e il supporto delle vittime di tratta. In Italia sarebbero più di 11mila le vittime di tratta fra il 2000 e il 2006, di cui 619 minori, mentre risultano 8.056, fra il 2005 e il 2006 le persone denunciate specificatamente per reati connessi alla tratta di esseri umani.

The artisans of Bastar in Chhattisgarh, known for their handicrafts of wood, terracotta, wrought-iron, etc., have remained unacknowledged due to lack of proper exposure and marketing. With the recent signing of MoUs between NGOs and local bodies, they will now get international recognition and a larger market to sell their products.
