WWF:n Climate Solutions 2050 -raportin mukaan maailma voi halutessaan vastata energiantarpeeseensa ja samalla pienentää päästöjään. Tämä on mahdollista kestävien energianlähteiden ja energiateknologioiden avulla, mutta vain, jos poliittiset päätökset tehdään seuraavien viiden vuoden aikana.

River dolphins of Bangladesh are facing a serious risk of extinction due to over-fishing, shortage of prey, pollution, etc. Efforts are now being made to protect them by monitoring salinity levels of rivers and preventing accidental killings of dolphins by fishermen.

EU komission mukaan Euroopan pitää vähentää kasvihuonekaasupäästöjään 20 prosenttia vuoden 1990 tasosta vuoteen 2020 mennessä. WWF:n mielestä tämä ei riitä: EU:n pitäisi vähentää päästöjään 30 prosenttia ja huutokaupata päästöoikeutensa, jotta kehitysmaita voitaisiin auttaa sopeutumaan ilmastonmuutokseen.

Palm oil companies are clearing forests with fires for plantations, says the latest Greenpeace report: Cool farming: Climate impacts of agriculture and mitigation potential. The report says that industrial agriculture is the largest emitter of greenhouse gases and suggests alternative methods and techniques to prevent the damage.

Sono più di 70.000 i bambini colpiti dalle alluvioni nella parte orientale dello Sri Lanka. A lanciare l'allarme è Save the Children che in una nota denuncia "i disastri naturali causati dal surriscaldamento del pianeta e dai cambiamenti climatici". Secondo un recente studio commissionato dall'organizzazione, nei prossimi dieci anni potrebbero essere 175 milioni i bambini nel mondo colpiti da disastri naturali dovuti ai cambiamenti climatici. Save the Children sta già portando aiuto alle famiglie che sono state colpite, molte delle quali erano già sfollate a causa del conflitto tra le forze governative e le Tigri del Tamil.

SAN FRANCISCO, Jan 3 (OneWorld) - Sixteen U.S. states have joined a lawsuit against the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), challenging its decision to stop California from implementing a landmark law limiting global warming pollution from new automobiles.
