Take the accomplishments of the "Millennium Villages", an initiative of the U.N. Millennium Project, which over the last five years has demonstrated how relatively small amounts of money spent on health, education, fertiliser and other essential services can dramatically accelerate progress towards the faltering Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

Intian uskomattoman talouskehityksen pimeämpi puoli käy ilmi lasten heikosta ravintotilanteesta. Unicefin uuden tutkimuksen mukaan kaikista intialaisista lapsista aliravittuja on huikeat 57 miljoonaa. Luku asettaa Intian samalle tasolle Etiopian kanssa. Molemmissa maissa aliravittujen lasten osuus on 47 prosenttia.

UNICEFin tuore raportti osoittaa, että yli neljännes kehitysmaiden lapsista on alipainoisia. Puutteellista ravintoa saa 146 miljoonaa kehitysmaan lasta. Huono ravitsemus on osasyyllinen 5,6 miljoonan lapsen kuolemaan vuosittain.
