31/08/2007 The Supreme Court of India dismissed review petitions by a number of state governments as having no merit. In doing this, the Court has upheld its directives handed down in the judgment delivered in a case last year (2006) where the Court ordered governments to comply with a set of 7 directives laying down practical mechanisms to kick-start reform.

06/08/2007 L'Alta corte di Chennai ha emesso una sentenza storica che preserva la legge indiana sui brevetti e dà torto alla multinazionale farmaceutica svizzera Novartis che voleva far dichiarare illegittima la normativa che consente alle industrie indiane di produrre copie a basso costo equivalenti generici e di qualità dei farmaci essenziali e salva-vita finanziariamente accessibili per i Paesi in via di sviluppo. "Questa sentenza è un grosso sollievo per milioni di pazienti e medici che operano nei Paesi più poveri e che dipendono interamente in larga misura da farmaci prodotti in India" - commenta Medici Senza Frontiere in Italia. "Chiediamo a tutte le multinazionali farmaceutiche e ai Paesi ricchi di rispettare la legislazione indiana e di smettere di spingere affinché i Paesi in via di sviluppo adottino regimi ancora più restrittivi in materia di brevetti sui farmaci".
